Breakfast is my least favorite meal of the day because I don’t eat eggs. Living in NYC, it is easy to default to an everything bagel from a bodega down the street. I was constantly looking for a bagel alternative. I read Tanya Zuckerbrot’s F-Factor last year and was introduced to the GG Cracker. Each GG Cracker is only 20 calories with 4g Fiber and 2g Net Carbs. I became obsessed with using these crackers as a great source of fiber and to replace bread throughout the day.
For this bagel alternative, I topped 4 GG Crackers with 2 tablespoons* of low fat cream cheese and everything bagel seasoning for a 100 calorie breakfast. Most Americans don’t achieve the recommended daily fiber intake. For reference it is 30 to 38 grams a day for men and 25 grams a day for women between 18 and 50 years old. This low calorie bagel alternative meets half of your daily fiber intake goal.
This article explains why fiber plays an important part of losing weight and maintaining a healthy life style.
*Great example of why having a quality food scale is critical to have in your kitchen. Here’s a post about the one I use.
